Wood Chip Colourant

Concentrated solution for colouring decorative wood chips

Protek Wood Chip is a water-based, low odour, low toxic wood colourant that is used for colouring softwood wood chips for playground safety and landscaping.

Only ingredients of the highest quality are used which give good light fastness and weather resistance after initial drying has taken place.

Protek Wood Chip has an excellent penetrating and dispersing action, which gives even coverage and also makes it suitable for large scale spraying and dipping.

Liquid samples are available upon request.

This product is available in 25 litre drums or 1000 litre intermediate bulk containers (IBC’s)

Description

Benefits:

  • Excellent penetrating and dispersing action giving even coverage, making it suitable for dipping.
  • Economical to use; approximately up to twice the coverage than similar fence products on the market. Coverage is dependent on timber porosity, density and moisture content.
  • Low VOC’s with low odour within the factory environment.
  • Certified under EN71 part 3—approved to use on children’s play equipment.
  • Good stability requiring agitation only after long periods of being unused.
  • Can be painted and varnished over when dry.

Application Guide

Where Protek Wood Chip is supplied as a concentrate, care must be taken not to exceed the recommended dilution. Failure to observe this would adversely affect the level of protection, colour and penetration.

It is essential to allow an initial drying period to enable the bonding action of the coating to work. This period will vary according to the ambient humidity. If freshly coated timber is to be immediately exposed to inclement conditions then protection is necessary to allow the initial drying period to be complete.

Protek Wood Chip has a high resistance to frost damage but care should be taken to protect it from freezing. It is not recommended that it be applied to frozen timber.

For the best results the surface of the timber should not be contaminated with fungus or mould and should be free from mud, ice and bark. The moisture content should not exceed 28%. For best results apply to kiln dried timber.
